In May of 2012, we boldly prayed for a young, uniquely-colored gelding. Within days, a friend of the ranch called saying she had a horse rescued from an abusive situation that needed a home. She felt he had potential and a gentle spirit that would be good for children. She knew nothing about his past, and said he would be a “project” because he was abused and extremely underweight. We named him after Gideon in the Old Testament, because of the amazing lessons he has already taught us. In our lives, things may sometimes seem hopeless; but when we remain obedient and are faithful, God will provide for our needs, expand our abilities, and use us in spite of our limitations. Just like Gideon in the Bible “who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised,” our Gideon is winning hearts for the Kingdom of God.
Lessons for us from Gideon’s life:
- God calls in the middle of our present obedience.
- As we are faithful, He gives us more responsibility and provides for our needs.
- God expands and uses the abilities he has already built into us.
- God uses us in spite of our limitations and failures.
Gideon is also in the Hebrews 11 Hall of Faith: “Who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised.”
