Dear Family and Friends,
It is already July 10 and I have four weeks of camp already finished! I am humbled over and over at how fast time slips through our fingers and how blessed I am to be able to spend most of my time sharing the Good News with so many. I am thankful I don’t spend much time watching the “news” because hearing about our decaying world second hand is enough for me.
I had the privilege of serving with my family as Rancher Counselors for the 2nd week of Day Camp. I have spent my 11 summers at the ranch serving in the barn so this is the first time since 2003 I have been a Day Camp Counselor…and to serve alongside my family was a dream come true. I am very thankful for the amazing people who serve in the Horsemanship Programs at STR because I knew the barn would be in very capable hands.
Since I work with children and teens all year long through the horsemanship programs I was unprepared for the intensity of having these young teens every day for a week and the power of influence we have over them. Thankfully it is the power of God’s Truth and nothing from ourselves that we are sharing with them. During the Bible lesson on the second day the Bible teacher asked questions to the kids such as, “How many of you know someone who is taking drugs? How many of you know someone who is drinking alcohol? How many of you know someone who is engaging in sexual activity? How many of you know someone who is confused about God’s plan for sexuality? How many of you know someone who is cutting?” I sat in horror as I watched hand after hand raise up until almost all of the 24 young teens had a hand in the air. It was all I could do to contain the tears that were welling up from a heart that was broken for these children. The lies they are bombarded with on a daily, actually a minute to minute basis thanks to social media and cell phones, is completely overwhelming. And it hit me with such gravity that I could have fell to the ground prostrate before our Lord because this task He set before us is not to be taken lightly! This task to share the promises of His Word is a mission that makes all other missions pale in comparison and did I truly comprehend that…was I being lolled into a sleepish state where I was starting to believe it doesn’t matter? IT DOES MATTER!
In that moment when I looked at the faces of those precious confused children I felt God’s heart break because He loves them, He wants them to choose Him and He wants me, you, us to be His Voice, Hands and Feet on this earth while there is still time. It is not about me, it is not about feelings, it is about an eternity with God or separated from Him…I don’t know if we can ever really grasp that until our dying breath but when that breath comes I want to be prepared to stand before my King and know I consciously did not waste the minutes He gave me on this earth. Those who serve at Strong Tower Ranch have a mission, the greatest mission, to share the unfailing love of Jesus!
It is an honor and privilege in this culture/world to have a platform to teach the truth…dear friends I fear even those days are numbered so we must seize the day to boldly use this beautiful piece of land God gave us to bring glory to the One True King because, as it is written, there will be a day “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Phil. 2:10-11
It is with much joy and praise that three of the young Rancher men choose to follow Jesus on our week of service. One of the boys started the week a professed atheist and ended it bowing to his Savior Jesus Christ. It is the greatest commission to make sure all we encounter know the truth so that when the day comes our knees will be bent due to servanthood to the King and not in fear of what is inevitably to come.
