Discipleship has Sprung at the Ranch!

A comment I have heard quite frequently in the past month no matter where I go is… “I am so tired of winter!”  This has been an unseasonably  long winter season and I am sure we have all felt that way unless, of course, you are one of those rare birds who love being cold.  But for the majority of us, it seemed to have drug on and on, even the horses where getting cranky. I am sure we are all rejoicing to see the blooms on the trees,  the birds singing at the crack of dawn and the frogs croaking their hearts out in the evening.    I even enjoy the power of a grand thunderstorm rolling in over the skyline of Strong Tower Ranch, talk about the power and majesty of our Great God.   And our Great God has provided this spring season at the Ranch with a lavish abundance of new volunteers, participants and leaders.

My greatest joy has been seeing disciples rise from the programs we offer.  Our guys GATES program produced several young men who want to step up and lead the Cowboy Adventure Camp this summer because Zac Davis needs to be home with his new baby girl and growing family, congratulations Zac!  Our first thought was to cancel because we really want a strong male leader for these boys and when some of our GATES guys heard about this they got together, stepped up and asked  if we could hold the camp if they led.  Now that is leadership!  Praise God!  Our girl’s GATES program is going strong with two nights of twelve young ladies, gathering to deepen their faith in Jesus, learn more about horses, and find their purpose in Christ.  Last night was our first night of Thursday Night GATES and sadly, I was very under the weather with a bad sinus situation.  I couldn’t talk very well, which for anyone who knows me, that is very unusual ;).  I sat back and observed as six young ladies, several of whom I have known since childhood, stepped up to the plate and lead the entire night with a servant type leadership.  I could have literally gone home with complete peace of mind.

I am rejoicing in my heart today because I feel as if I am coming off a long winter in so many ways.  Even in ministry there is a time of preparing the soil, removing the dirt, sowing the seed and then you WAIT!  This season of waiting can often make us feel like most of us did this winter…tired, isolated, anxious, and even depressed.  But God promises us in His Word that if we do not become weary in doing good, that at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”  Galatians  6: 9-10.

I think the million dollar question is, “What is doing good?”  As a dear friend of mine would say instead, “What is doing GOD?”  And doing God is loving well, putting others before yourself and basking in the eternal love of a Savior who loves so well through us.  As I watch the disciples of the ranch doing to others as I and others  have done to them my heart could burst with joy because they are doing what Jesus told his original twelve to do, “I give you a new command: Love each other deeply and fully. Remember the ways that I have loved you, and demonstrate your love for others in those same ways. 35 Everyone will know you as My followers if you demonstrate your love to others.”  John 13:34-35.  My prayer for you and for me in this new season is to LOVE as the Creator of Love loves!!!

As I step out in faith for a second season of seeking financial support please consider supporting me through prayer and or financial support.  I will be taking a leave of absence from my current job this summer to spend my summer weeks leading the volunteers and campers in the ministry work we do with the children who visit the barn.  If you would like to support me in this way please make checks payable to Strong Tower Ranch with “mission support for Lori Brooks” in the memo.  Thank you!!!!
